Contact is coached in person, on a pitch, by someone watching you. This page is here to make that coaching land faster, not to replace it. Rugby AI does not score tackles and never will. We cannot see legality, head contact, or force from a phone, so we do not guess at them. Do not practise contact alone or with a friend who has not been coached.
Guides / Contact
Contact
Contact work you can do on your own.
Contact is best learned on a pitch with a coach watching. These drills build what that session starts from: footwork, balance, going to ground under control and getting back up. Every one is solo and contactless. Save contact itself for coached training.
Footwork and body height
Short steps and a low athletic position, so you arrive balanced instead of stretched.
GuideTracking a moving target
Eyes and feet on something that will not hold still. A rolling ball is the target.
GuideGround position and getting up
Land strong, roll to your feet, and get back up facing the way you meant to.
GuideFalling safely
Going to ground from a low, controlled start, so the floor stops being a surprise.
GuideNeck and shoulder mobility
Unloaded range of movement. No weight, no resistance, no partner, on purpose.
What you will learn at training instead
Tackling, rucking, jackaling and mauling are coached in person, by a coach who can see you. Use these pages to arrive ready for that session.
Loaded neck training is not here either
No harness work, no partner resistance, no bridging under load. Loading a growing neck is its own injury risk and it does not become safe by being done alone. The mobility page is unloaded movement only, and that is the whole of it.
