Privacy, for players
This is the plain version, written for the people who actually use Rugby AI. The full privacy page covers exactly the same ground in more detail, and it is the complete one.
Nothing has been made nicer here. Where something is awkward, it is on this page too, because a version that only tells you the good parts is not worth reading.
The short version
- Nobody watches your videos. They are not public and other players never see them.
- We do not know your name. We never asked for it and we cannot look you up.
- You can delete your data yourself, whenever you want, without asking an adult.
- You can ask us what we have about you, and you do not need a parent to ask.
The app
This is the same thing the full page says, in fewer words.
Who can see my videos?
Nobody. Your film is not public, it is not shown to other players, and no one here sits and browses through videos. To score you, still pictures from your film go to a computer system run by Google, which works out how you moved.
Your video sits on computers in the United States for 30 days and then deletes itself automatically. Your video keeps its sound too, and that goes after 30 days with it. Nothing listens to it. If you live in the UK, that means your film travels to America to be looked at. We are telling you because you should know, not because you have to do anything about it.
Is Coach Ellis a real person?
No. Ellis is an AI. She is not a coach sitting somewhere reading your messages, and she is not a person you are keeping waiting.
The system that answers you is built by Google, so when you type something it leaves your phone and goes to Google to get a reply. We do not tell them who you are. We pay for the service, and paying means Google is not allowed to use your messages to train their AI.
Does Ellis remember what I tell her?
Only while the app is open, and we do not keep it. If you close the chat and come back, the conversation you were in is still there. Close the app and it is gone from your phone as well. We do not save what you say to Ellis. We keep a count of when you messaged her, so we know how many you have used, but not a word of what you said. We could not go back and read it, because we never had it.
Here is the honest bit. Your message still leaves your phone on its way to Google. So do not type anything into Ellis you would not want a stranger to read. That is good advice for any AI chat, not only this one.
Does Ellis know where I am?
No. Your message carries the country your phone is set to, like GB or US, and nothing else about where you are. That is a setting, not a place. There is no map and no GPS, and nothing checks where you are standing.
It is there for one reason. If you ever tell Ellis something that needs a real person, she can give you a helpline that actually works in your country, instead of a number from somewhere else. That part never goes to Google, and we do not save it.
Does the app keep track of what I do in it?
A little, from version 1.1. It notes things like which setup screens you got to, whether you tried a sample clip or your own, when the plan screen showed up and what you tapped, whether you opened Ellis, and whether you opened the app that day. That is so we can see where people get stuck and fix it.
It never includes anything you typed, said or filmed, or your score. It is tied to the same random ID as everything else, so it does not say who you are.
Before you answer the age question, what you do in the app only adds one to a count for the day, with nothing attached that points to you. If your phone already pays for Pro, the app checks that when it opens and keeps a note of it against your random ID. If you say you are under 13, nothing about you is kept, only that one more person saw that screen.
It deletes itself after 180 days. We do not sell it, we do not share it, and no advertising company gets it.
Do you know who I am?
No. There is no name, no email and no phone number. The app makes up a random string of characters for itself the first time it needs one, and that is your whole account. It tells us two scores came from the same phone. It does not tell us whose phone.
That has one real consequence: if you lose your phone, you lose your account. We cannot find it and give it back, because we never knew who you were.
How old do I have to be?
Thirteen. The app asks your age when you set it up, and if you are under 13 it stops there and does not go any further.
That is not us saying younger players do not matter. It is us saying we have not built something that is right for them yet, and we would rather say so than pretend.
Can my parents read my messages to Ellis?
No. There is no parent account and no way to switch one on. Whoever pays for the app, a parent included, still cannot read what you said. Your conversations are yours.
Why do you keep my scores?
Because the whole point is showing you that you got better. If we wiped your scores every month we could not show you that your passing is sharper than it was in March.
They stay while you are using the app. If you stop for two years, they delete themselves. The clock runs from the last time you opened it, not from when you got the score. If you would rather we did not keep them, delete your data and they go.
How do I delete everything?
Choose Delete my data in the app. It removes your videos, your scores, the record of when you talked to Ellis and the record of what you did in the app, and it clears what is on your phone. It is not hidden or archived somewhere. It goes. One thing stays: the company that handles subscriptions keeps a note of your phone and any purchase. Email contact@aries-digital.com (that is contact at aries-digital dot com) and we will get it deleted.
Two things worth knowing first. Your five checks a week do not come back, so deleting is not a way to get a fresh go. And deleting the app is not the same as deleting your data: if you just delete the app, the random ID goes with it, and without that ID we cannot find your records to remove them. They still run out on their own: 30 days for video, 180 days for what you did in the app, and two years for scores.
Do you sell my stuff, or track where I am?
No to both. We do not sell your data to anyone and we do not share it. The app never asks for your location. If a video you pick has the place it was filmed saved inside it, we remove that as soon as it reaches us. Our server does keep a basic record of requests for 30 days to keep the app working, including the internet address your phone used. We do not use it to find where you are, and your chats with Ellis are not in it. There are no ads, so nothing you do is used to target you.
What if I want to ask you something, or I think you have got something wrong?
Email us at contact@aries-digital.com and a real person answers. You can ask what we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
If that address looks broken, or tapping it does nothing, type it in yourself: contact at aries-digital dot com. Use an @ where it says at, and a . where it says dot.
You do not need a parent to ask, and you do not have to explain why. If you would rather have an adult help you, that is fine too. Either way, the answer comes to you.
This website
What happens if I join the waitlist?
We keep your email address so we can email you when the app is ready to use, and now and then when something in it changes. We also keep anything else you chose to type, like your role or your club. Nothing is scored on this website and no video is uploaded here.
We use it for two things: emailing you about Rugby AI, and working out which links bring people here. To do the second one we also store which page you signed up from and the tags on the link you followed, so we can tell which posts work. It is not used to work out who you are. That is the only reason we have it. We do not sell it. We do not give it to anyone else. No advertising company gets it. You can tell us to delete it whenever you want and we will: email us and say so, and a real person will do it and reply to tell you it is done. You do not have to give a reason.
Are you counting me right now?
We count visits to this site, but not people. We can see how many times a page was opened, roughly how many different visitors there were, and which site sent them. There is no tracking cookie and no advertising ID, and it cannot recognise you again on a later day.
We also count taps on the App Store button: which page you were on, which button, and which site or post sent you here. We keep the number, not you. Nothing is saved on your phone to do it, and it cannot recognise you again. The link to Apple carries the campaign name too, and nothing about you.
The full version
The full privacy page is the complete one. It names every company that touches anything, says how long each thing is kept, and covers the website in more detail. It is written in plain language too, just longer.
