Kick to a touchline mark

This drill trains you to kick for a spot rather than for distance, which is what actually wins ground.

What good looks like

  • The drop stays straight under pressure to hit a target
  • Leg stays fast through the ball
  • Body carries forward

The drill

  1. Put a cone on a line 25 meters away as your landing mark.
  2. Take two steps, drop the ball straight, and strike through it.
  3. Watch where it lands. Do not judge the kick by how far it went.
  4. Collect and reset. Ten kicks, count how many land inside 5 meters of the cone.

Space

40m of grass with a straight line, one ball, one cone.

Make it harder / make it easier

Harder. Move the mark to 35 meters, or make the target a 5 meter box.

Easier. Bring the mark to 15 meters and kick for accuracy only.

How to film it

Prop the phone side-on. The landing will be out of frame; film the kick, not the ball. How to film a drill.
