Swerve

This drill builds a curved run that keeps your speed instead of trading it away.

What good looks like

  • No hard plant anywhere in the movement
  • You lean away from the cone while your feet keep running
  • Speed at the end of the arc is the same as the speed going in
  • Ball carried in the arm furthest from the cone

The drill

  1. Put a cone down 12 meters in front of you.
  2. Run at the cone at three quarter pace, ball in two hands.
  3. About 4 meters out, start bending your line away from it in a smooth arc.
  4. Lean your upper body away from the cone as you go past, and keep your feet turning over at the same rate.
  5. Finish 5 meters past the cone still running, not slowing to stop.
  6. Run it both ways, arcing left and arcing right.

Space

25m x 10m of flat grass, one ball, one cone.

Make it harder / make it easier

Harder. Narrow the arc so you pass within a meter of the cone without planting or slowing.

Easier. Widen the arc and run at half pace until the lean feels natural, then add speed.

How to film it

Prop the phone side-on and back far enough that the whole arc fits in frame, one take. How to film a drill.
