How to grubber kick

This drill teaches you to kick down through the ball instead of under it.

What good looks like

  • Ball released in front of the foot
  • Strike over the top of the ball
  • Body stays forward over it

The drill

  1. Set a cone 15 meters away as your target line.
  2. Hold the ball low, pointed down and slightly forward.
  3. Drop it a hip width in front of your kicking foot.
  4. Strike the top half of the ball so it rolls end over end along the ground.
  5. Chase it, pick it up off the deck, and walk back.

Space

20m of flat grass, one ball, one cone.

Make it harder / make it easier

Harder. Grubber through a 1 meter gate at 15 meters.

Easier. Roll the ball by hand first so you can see the end-over-end shape you want.

How to film it

Prop the phone side-on, low, with the first 5 meters of roll in frame. How to film a drill.
