Place kick off a tee

This drill builds a repeatable approach so the strike is the same every time.

What good looks like

  • The same approach every time
  • Front shoulder at the target
  • Plant foot beside the ball
  • Leg finishes high

The drill

  1. Set the ball on a tee, seam pointing at your target.
  2. Take the same number of steps back and across every single time. Mark the spot.
  3. Turn your front shoulder at the target before you move.
  4. Walk in, plant your standing foot beside the ball, not behind it, and strike through.
  5. Hold your finish. Then go and get the ball.

Space

Posts or a target 20m+ away, one ball, one tee.

Make it harder / make it easier

Harder. Move back 5 meters, or take the kick from wider on the touchline side.

Easier. Halve the distance and kick at a cone rather than at posts.

How to film it

Prop the phone behind and slightly to the side so the approach and the plant both show. How to film a drill.
