Clearing pass from the base

This drill is a pass off the ground from a static base, the nine's picture, without contact.

What good looks like

  • Feet set beyond the ball
  • One sweeping motion off the deck
  • Follow-through along the gate line

The drill

  1. Place the ball on the ground beside a cone. Set a gate 5 meters away as your receiver line.
  2. Step to the ball, back foot beyond it, hands to the ball with your shoulders already facing the gate.
  3. Sweep the ball off the ground through the gate in one motion. No backswing, no step after.
  4. Jog to the gate, reset the ball at the cone, and go again from the other side.

Space

10m x 5m flat area, one ball, three cones.

Make it harder / make it easier

Harder. Have a feeder roll the ball to the cone so you pass a moving ball.

Easier. Start with the ball held at knee height instead of on the ground.
