Gate passing

This drill grooves shoulder set and follow-through on a fixed target line.

What good looks like

  • Shoulders set before release
  • Inside leg plants
  • Hands finish toward the target

The drill

  1. Set two cones 2 meters apart, 5 meters away. That gap is your receiver.
  2. Stand side-on to the gate with the ball in two hands.
  3. Set your shoulders toward the gate, plant your inside leg, and pass through the gap.
  4. Walk forward, collect the ball, reset at the start point, and go again.
  5. Count clean passes through the gate. A clip or a roll along the ground does not count.

Space

10m x 5m flat area, one ball, two cones.

Make it harder / make it easier

Harder. Narrow the gate to 1 meter, or take two walking steps into each pass.

Easier. Move to 3 meters from the gate and slow to a step-through rhythm.
